It seems that the likelihood for a failure is greater on faster systems. The cmpthese call is configured to run one CPU second, faster systems may run more iterations within this period. On a FreeBSD system with about 1GB RAM 2000 iterations in the benchmark work, while 3000 cause a (probably memory related) process crash.
