Subject: Mechanize Documentation Request
Date: Wed, 23 Feb 2005 12:20:36 -0500
Hi, This is a low priority request to add to the existing WWW::Mechanize documentation found on: http://search.cpan.org/~petdance/WWW-Mechanize-1.11_02/lib/WWW/Mechanize.pm This is probably a very obvious statement, but for persons new to perl, screen scraping or automation tools, it may be of value to point out that when submitting forms, all fields should be included - regardless of whether they are visible or not, and filled in appropriately - Otherwise the form submital may not work, but will also not return an error - a potentially confusing situation. To summerize, please include, somewhere in the forms section of the WWW:Mechanize documentation a note stating that one must be sure to submit *all* fields of a form, including hidden values, in order to assure success in form submital. Best regards, Altrus

Sounds like you've pretty much got it figured out. Please go ahead and send me a paragraph, in POD format, that I can drop in, and I'll do it. Thanks, xoxo, Andy -- Andy Lester => andy@petdance.com => www.petdance.com => AIM:petdance

In my experience, Mechanize works just like using a real browser: I only need to submit the fields that I want to change the values of. That's a conflicting statement. Perhaps the more accurate clarification is: You have to submit all of the fields that the application requires, some of which may be hidden. How the application responds when all the fields it needs are not present is application dependent. It is usually sufficient to submit just the fields you want to change the values of. However, to be safe, you may which to submit every known field. Does that sound like the truth to you both? Mark

As far as I recall, I never got commit access back after the migration from CVS to SVN. My username for CPAN stuff is 'markstos'. Mark
