I found in [1] that the output of the Makefile is intentionally hidden. This makes it unnecessarily hard to debug problems when building Glib. While I understand the want for nicer, fancier (non-)output, an obvious message or ideally, no hiding of the commands would make it easier to debug build problems of the C parts.
