Subject: "Excess flood" connection failure seemed to get cached
Couldn't connect to freenode at all, due to every failure attempt erroring out with "excess flood". Except according to strace, that wasn't seen on the wire. I suspect this was a future being cached somewhere. -- Paul Evans

No, turned out to be a real "excess flood" failure from freenode, because of a high rate of JOINs on startup. A mitigation is now in place by way of a merged multiway JOIN. -- Paul Evans
