Subject: consider releasing with META files
Hi, please consider making a new release, with the META files (META.json, META.yml) generated. Having these files makes it easier to detect dependencies, without having to run Perl code. If you are using MakeMaker (you have Makefile.PL), just do "make dist", and the META files should appear. If you are using Module::Build (you have Build.PL), just do "./Build dist", and the META files should appear. Then, add the META.json and META.yml to MANIFEST, and make a new release.

I think this is an abandoned module, and that you're probably trawling through CPAN looking for these situations so you can file bugs. However, consider if it's worth it to ask someone to release a module last released 15 years ago. It creates a lot of useless work for virtually no benefit.

Trawling is a bit of an exaggeration. Just a small set of problematic modules I ran into while computing a dependency graph. I don't really care when the module was last released, and I realize that in many cases bug reports will just fall to the void, for whatever reason. But I'm doing my civic duty by noting the problem.

But, as you know, many of us pay attention and take on maintainership too because we are doing more than just noting the problem. I got the same email from you for two different modules without any indication what you were doing or why you needed the fix, or if the fix was even important to you. You requested that I do work, though. As you already know and future readers may not know, if the module is abandoned and you need it to change, CPAN has a process for the person who needs it to make it right. As open source, this spreads out the work instead of burdening a handful of people with cleanups that virtually no one will notice.

You have just helped to pinpoint a couple of modules I will try my hardest to live without.
