Subject: Artist for wma reported as Author

Hi, Thanks for working on exiftool. It's a great tool. We are talking about making a tag-reader for EMMS that uses exiftool. However, one quirk is that what is reported as 'Artist' for mp3 and ogg is called 'Author' for wma files. Is that a feature? Or could some mapping be added to have consistent naming of fields across file types? Thanks, Rasmus
I'm sorry, but I think you have to complain to Microsoft about this one. There are other available Microsoft ASF tags AlbumArtist and OriginalArtist available for use in WMA files. I don't know why they don't use them, and use Author instead. The name of the ASF (WMA) Author tag is not up for debate because it is stored as plain text. I don't have the resources to figure out what software writes what information where in audio/video files, but if you can figure out the important mappings I will see about including this in ExifTool. Probably the way to do this is with a config file that creates user-defined custom tags to pull the appropriate information from the various metadata types. - Phil

Hi Phil, Thanks for the quick reply. "Phil Harvey via RT" <bug-Image-ExifTool@rt.cpan.org> writes: Show quoted text

The only one I know of ATM is the weird author thing for Microsoft audio tags... And after sending the previous email I even saw that it's documented behavior on the ref (that you link to). I will reply to this thread if I find other oddities. Thanks for working on exiftool. It's amazing software! —Rasmus
