Subject: UTF-8 encoding
Version 0.08 converted the French-speaking words into UTF-8. Unfortunately, there was no "use utf8;" in the code files. So actually, where Emacs, Vi, shell, grep see "Vendémiaire" and "Floréal", for example, Perl reads "VendÂ(copyright)miaire" and "FlorÂ(copyright)al". Since the test scripts also lack the "use utf8;" invocation, they did not notice the problem. So, simple scripts which just print values to a UTF-8-aware xterm seem to work, but if you want to use "length", "substr", "sprintf qq(%8s)" for example, the scripts are broken.
